Postscript to commentary, Sept 30th 2010
Having completed my commentary for this week, and prior to making a start for the airport, I went for coffee at the bar in the main circulation area here in the Brussels fortress, Frequently this space has displays, at which I rarely pause. Today it was different, it was the Battle of Britain!
A very nice display. A big model Hurricane, twenty or so billboards with pictures of the battle and photographs of notable pilots, with write-ups of them. And then the penny dropped. While giving credit for our lone stand, and for their deliverance,- with quotes of parts of Churchill's speeches-, all the pictures and potted biographies were of French, Polish or Czech pilots. Plus John Kent, but he was Canadian. Stanford Tuck just got a one line mention, no picture, and no mention at all of Douglas Bader...........
