According to county council figures, the Government's austerity drive is forcing Northamptonshire County Council to find £69m savings from its £1bn budget this year alone.
This could lead to the loss of up to 900 jobs and has already seen vital bus service subsidies cut and street lights being turned off.
Meanwhile the Government has so far committed £12.5bn or £604 per man woman and child to the EU bailouts.
The Labour government left a legacy of financial failure. This Government talks about cuts but in fact is increasing public spending. The taxes raised do not cover the spending already committed.
Any household, any business, any department in the situation we are in now would recognise that we cannot go on like this
There is fat to be cut in Northamptonshire - tax payers have been paying far too much for far too long. But when we see what is being cut, it isn't the big salary positions, it's vital services.
Of course there is a massive elephant in the room when we talk about the Government's partial austerity measures; an elephant that has an insatiable appetite - the EU bailouts.
The bailout is there to fund the failures of EU policy: to pay for their financial failures. Don't get me wrong; I am appalled by the legacy of waste at home, but the £12.5bn that has been committed by this country to spend on Portugal, Ireland and Greece makes it impossible to balance the books.
Anybody who is worried about a services being cut or chopped should be aware that the Government is planning a reduction in spending of £20bn. Of which over half is already committed to the EU bailouts.
If you are running a campaign against the cuts, then get in touch. I want to know, because the Government needs to be told. No more EU Bailouts, no more throwing our money away to Brussels. People here in Northamptonshire are angry about this, and want their money spent on their own services.
