Dear Sir
EVENING TELEGRAPH
In his response to me Mr Clay seems to have the wrong impression. I'm not trying to change things in the EU because I believe our country should not be part of this political shambles. Everything I do in the EU is to try and hasten the end of our membership of it. Since I am an MEP I try to protect British industry from the worst of EU interference by the way I vote. As an MEP I try to inform the British Electorate as to what is going on in their name and with their money.
As regards the perks he talks about my attendance allowance all goes on the necessary travel to and fro and on hotel accommodation. I'm usually out of pocket to a small amount, which worries me none at all. If anyone should query that please remember that any quotes you get for Hotel accommodation in Strasbourg or Brussels is grossly inflated when the EU Parliament is sitting
As to my full time assistance I need them for my work both in Europe and at home, their salaries go direct to them, I do not handle that at all, so how that can be a perk I do not know.
Yours sincerely
Derek Clark MEP
