The Editor,
Dear Sir,
The announcement of job losses at Tata is a kick in the teeth for the people of Corby.
Many jobs were lost when the steel works closed down all those years ago but at least a remnant remained under Tata.
It is essential for the UK to retain skills and this is important for Corby too, it means that a range of jobs remain to give differing options, especially for school leavers.
Even with a reduced work force of at Tata this vital element was still present in Corby to some degree.
Let us hope there are no more job losses in the town's steel industry because when things look up again it may be difficult to restore the jobs lost now.
Yours,
Derek Clark, UKIP Employment spokesman and MEP for Northamptonshire.
