To The Editor,
Dear Sir,
Your Opinion piece this week says that St George's Day should become a Bank Holiday,- I couldn't agree more.
You say there is increased recognition of St George's Day, but it is still very low key. It's about time we did it properly.
Like a growing number of English people, I believe St George's Day should now become a national holiday. Other parts of the UK celebrate their National Saint's day enthusiastically, why should the English not bang their own drum too?
Might be good for pubs too which are having a hard time these days. No harm in boosting their trade by downing some real ales to mark the date!
Yours sincerely,
Derek Clark, MEP for Northamptonshire.
